Meet McKenzie Martinez

Who is McKenzie Martinez?

My name is McKenzie Martinez. I am a matriculate of UA Little Rock studying Geology and minoring in Information Technology. I’m from Little Rock and went to high school in Maumelle so staying local for college was an easy choice. I enjoy everything about the outdoors which is fitting for my major. I love to hike, camp, ride bikes, kayak, and hammock. I also love to participate in team activities. In high school I was honored to be able to play basketball, softball, tennis, and even be on our bowling team.

I have had the privilege to be a resident assistant with UA Little Rock campus living for 2 years now, I have served on Kappa Delta executive board as Vice president finance and Vice president membership, and I’ve completed my minor in information technology. Some skills I possess due to these experiences are are Communication skills, computer skills, leadership skills, budgeting, curriculum development, image management and branding, PR and marketing campaigning, project management, and event planning.  As a resident assistant I have been diligently trained in problem solving tactics, respectful communication, conflict management, and sensitivity training and have had hands on experience with communicating with hundreds of different types of people. Because of my Information Technology minor I am very confident in my ability to use Microsoft Office such as Excel, Word and Outlook, HTML, CSS, and Google Platforms. I also am very familiar with budgeting because as the VP Finance of my organization  I was  given the task to make a budget for the whole organization. This includes budgeting for bills, income, insurance, and leisure items for the chapter. While serving as VP Membership I was able to obtain the skills of curriculum development, image management and branding, PR and marketing campaigning, project management, and event planning due to the fact that i had to run our recruitment, advertise for the sorority, and I had to hold retention meetings. Finally, I’ve been developing leadership skills my whole life. From high school sports, to my sorority, and even while being a Resident assistant but my Information technology classes taught me a whole new side of teamwork and leadership. I was able to work on a team in a new setting. I learned a lot about how to be a humble leader and how to acknowledge when to take a step back and let someone else lead.

I would love to apply all of my skills in my future career. I have had a rare privilege to be able to work, learn, and serve in so many different environment and have had the opportunity to develop my skills in so many ways. I would love to hold a new and exciting leadership position in the near future and see what else I can learn and what I can build off of. If I’ve learned anything from my experiences thus far it would definitely be that you’re never done expanding your skills. While I may still be learning, I’m very excited to implement some of my skills in the real world.
